Alan Goldsmith

Alan Goldsmith BA (Hons) QPM 
Alan attended Manchester University where he was awarded a BA (Hons) in Philosophy in 1971. On graduation he joined a major food producer.

He joined Norfolk Police in 1974, where he served in a variety of posts including heading the force Special Branch. He was responsible for setting up the Norfolk Computer Team.

In 1985 he transferred to Cheshire Police where he worked as a Sub Divisional and Divisional Commander and as Head of Administration. He returned to Norfolk where he was appointed Assistant Chief Constable Operations. He was awarded the Queens’ Police Medal in 1999.

During his latter service he lectured for the Ministry of Defense, the Emergency Planning College and the Police Staff College. He presented evidence to the House of Commons Defense Select Committee regarding the national response to terrorism. Alan was a member of the Association of Chief Police Officers Emergency Procedures Committee from 1961 until 2004.

Following the events of September 11th 2001, Alan led the police service on consequence management issues arising from terrorist attacks. His experience and knowledge are widely recognized in the emergency planning community and he is still regularly consulted by the Government and other agencies.
